Art Gallery of Albert | Architectural Study

On a freezing cold Edmonton afternoon and decided to walk around the Art Gallery of Alberta with my camera. I’ve always liked how this place looks, so I snapped a bunch of pictures just to show what caught my eye.

The building has this big shiny metal part that twists and curves all around it like a giant ribbon frozen in place. It wraps around the straight glass and boxy sections in a really neat way. Up close, you can see how perfectly the metal panels fit together – no messy edges or anything, even on the curvy bits.

I shot everything on a gray, cloudy day, which actually made the shapes and shadows pop more. The metal looks different depending on the angle – sometimes bright and smooth, sometimes darker and textured.

Some of my shots zoom in on the little details, like where the curve meets the windows or the round tower part. Others pull back so you can see the whole thing sitting there with the stairs and plaza out front.

I’m not an architect or anything – I just enjoy looking at buildings that feel fun and well put together. This one stands out because it’s bold but still feels friendly, especially the way the big overhang kind of welcomes you in even on a drab winter day.
